Overcoming binge eating can be such a difficult experience. It’s scary to try and trust yourself with foods you have believed you will always be out of control with. Part of binge eating disorder treatment is helping you have a different experience with these foods. Healing from binge eating disorder involves focusing on intuitive eating and creating a healthier relationship with food. You deserve to enjoy all different types of food without feeling guilty.
A way to challenge yourself is by experiencing food in a new way. I want to offer you some restaurants to try and challenge your binge eating in the St. George area. This is an important step in knocking binge foods off their pedestal.
First Watch
Many of the women I work with struggle with their relationship with food and have foods they have deemed as “bad” or forbidden. What Intuitive Eating says about this is restricting foods leads to increased cravings and often eventually results in binges. A common fear food that some clients have is breakfast food. First Watch is just the restaurant to take some risks with trying breakfast foods. First Watch is located across from Dixie Red Hills Golf Course. There are plenty of breakfast foods for you to try and normalize and take away the fears you have about eating them. Whether it’s their Lemon Ricotta Pancakes or the Biscuits and Gray, you can eat these meals mindfully and be fully present. Be warned you will likely see calorie counts on the menus so you can consider having someone read you the menu or cover the numbers.
Benja Thai and Sushi
One of my favorite restaurants in St. George is Benja’s is located across the street from Barnes and Noble and the Red Cliffs Mall. One reason that I recommend exploring different types of food and cultures is to help you get more in tune with your tastes. People who have a long history of dieting, emotional eating, or an eating disorder can become rigid and struggle to deviate from what they are comfortable with or have decided is safe. Going to Benja’s can give you the opportunity to try foods outside of your food rules. My favorite thing to order is the Chicken Pad Thai but there are plenty of other foods to explore and try.
3. Rigatti’s
Pizza is a common fear food for people with disordered eating. It’s a food that people can cut out of their diet right away because they don’t believe they have self-control and can’t be trusted with it. Restricting pizza will again lead to more intense cravings resulting in your only experience with pizza being a binge. It doesn’t have to be this way. Pizza is a delicious food that you should be allowed to eat and have a different experience with. Rigatti’s has wood-fired pizza and it’s amazing. Rigatti’s is located near the Megaplex in Sunset. I recommend challenging yourself to have a different experience with pizza here.
